CC.COM Under New Management!

(25-May-2001) John Knudsen, the founder of CC.COM, recently announced that he was retiring from the day to day management of the popular correspondence chess domain. After directing the domain for just over 5 years and building it to include numerous web sites devoted to chess (mostly correspondence chess) he has decided to redirect his energy into other web site activities and personal cc competition. Since he recently qualified for the International Master (IM) title he is expecting to play some very tough competition. With innovations like the CC Message Board (TCCMB), Correspondence Chess News (CCN) and The World of Correspondence Chess [site of Victor (Vytas) Palciauskas, 10th World Correspondence Chess Champion], he has been recognized as one of the leaders concerning chess on the Internet.

The new director of the CC.COM domain is Grayling Hill. He is a very popular choice and people are already rallying behind him and voicing their approval. Grayling is well known at CC.COM as the News Editor/Business Director of Correspondence Chess News. The above picture shows him at the ICCF Congress in Daytona Beach, Florida (September 2000) greeting people at the welcome desk. He will now look after the business of keeping CC.COM functioning and insuring that CC.COM continues its work to popularize cc and serve the world-wide correspondence chess community.

Happy 50th Birthday ICCF!
The International Correspondence Chess Federation was constituted on 22nd March 1951 and has, since then, served the international cc community, held world championships & team Olympiads, granted titles and international ratings and generally promoted our art/sport/science throughout the world. Competition is available to all classes of players. To celebrate this significant occasion ICCF President Alan Borwell has announced several free tournaments and special events. Congratulations Max!
(12-May-2001) ICCF-U.S. Secretary Professor Max Zavanelli has won the Reg Gillman Memorial E Tournament

Max Zavanelli
Max Zavanelli

with the outstanding score of +10 -1 =2 (11-2). He has already exceeded the IM norm by a full point with one game remaining. Max sacrificed his personal playing career for many years to build a strong cc program in the USA. With his recent retirement from the office of Director of the North American/Pacific Zone (NAPZ) he has apparently found a little time to return to competition, and what a return it has been!

Congratulations to Max, not only for his outstanding contribution to the organization and support of correspondence chess, but for his outstanding sporting success in competitive play versus strong competition. The Campbell Report salutes Max Zavanelli on his remarkable score and for qualifying for the IM title. He should receive his IM medal at the annual ICCF Congress to be held in Rimini, Italy this summer.

For the crosstable of the event check the announcement at the International Correspondence Chess Federation (ICCF) Web Site (see item dated 08.05).
