My photo walk of 12 May 2009 |

12 May 2009 I really needed to work off some calories I set off on a walk that in the end lasted 96 minutes. I headed out south similar to my Walk of 25 April 2009. However, as I walked south on Jefferson Street I reached a large field of grass meant for some future commercial development. I stepped over the barrier and out into the field to see what I could see. I walked over to its eastern edge and turned south. The walking was difficult due to the deep grasses (I later found burrs on my shoes from some of these grasses). Looking ahead I could see standing water and, watching my footing carefully I could see the soil was starting to get wet. I headed back west towards Jefferson but, reaching the edge of the field, I saw that the railroad tracks were between me and the street. I carefully made my way through the heavy weeds and down an embankment and reached the tracks. I then walked the rails for about four blocks (frequently looking over my shoulder) till I reached Kipp Road. I headed west on Kipp, past Jefferson Street till I reached Cedar Street. This was a most interesting route taking me to the other side of Sycamore Creek, which means I am committed to a lengthy walk since there are few paths over the creek back to my side of town. I ended with a steep walk up Elm Street, which is one block north of my home street Cherry Street. |

| 1-3. Looking south along the railroad tracks I walked to Kipp Road. The 3rd picture shows the tracks as viewed along Kipp Road, showing the RR crossing. | |||

4. Looking right (north) after I entered Kipp Road I could see this collection of heavy equipment. |

5-6. The hazards of walking along a busy road. The first photo shows the guard rail along Kipp Road. To avoid walking in traffic, a dangerous option on this busy road, I had to navigate the trecherous "path" outside the guard rail. The next photo shows the drop to Sycamore Creek just a few feet from the guard rail. |

| 7-9. Approaching Jefferson Street walking along Kipp Road I passed this business building (JP Signs & Graphics and GCC Technologies) on the right while U. S. Hardtech is across the street. Beyond the U. S. Hardtech entrance sign the top of the Meijer grocery store building can be glimpsed. | |||

15. There is a surprising amount of "wild area" along Cedar Street in Mason. The flowering trees are in top form just now. |
