My photo walk of 21 June 2009 |

21 June 2009 100+ minute brisk walk. For Father's Day I went on a 2+ hour walk, probably somewhat over 100 minutes of actual walking. I've been walking in the evening or late at night, so I haven't carried my camera on most of my recent trips. I'm planning to add a flash so I can take some night photos, but that will come later. I'm also adding a tiny support (tripod-like) to allow for pictures including myself. This time, instead of my usual late afternoon/evening walks I left about 2pm. It was a partly cloudy day and a bit warm. I turned on our house air conditioning for the first time yesterday ... we've had a very pleasant Spring in Mason ... not too hot ... but it is warming up now. I've been wanting to check out the area south of Mason, so today I walked south on Barnes Street past Kipp Road (where Barnes St. changes name to Eden Road). There are several businesses out there that I documented today. I walked past the Mason airport, but given the length of my walk I decided to leave closer inspection of the airport to another day. | Turning left off Cherry Street onto Barnes St. you can see the immediate bend in the road heading south. I pass an attractive house on Barnes Street with a pretty house number. I also photography an attractive contrast in colors, green and red. |
An attractive decorated barn/garage on Barnes Street. |
| Lots of sand/rocks available at the Reith-Riley Construction Company just south of Kipp Road. |
| I found this area at the Reith-Riley Construction Company fascinating with all the textures in the piles of rocks and sand plus lots of heavy equipment. |
| Approaching the local airport (Mason Jewett Field). I liked the patterns and colors of the buildings and all the green surrounding the field. The No Trespassing sign was interesting. |
| The entrance to the Mason airport (main sign on Aviation Dr!). I meant to explore the airport on my way back, but the walk had taken so long and I was so tired at that point that I decided to wait for another day. That should be a good future trip. |
| Two more shots of the concrete company and one of the next company to the south Mason Packing Company (MPC). |
| Distant view of the airport / young corn field along Eden Road / Mason Packing Company (MPC) |
As I continued south on Eden Road I came to the Vevay Township offices on the right side of the road. |
| The far end of my walk has been reached with Eden Road bearing right and turning into Tomlinson Road. At this point I turned around and started my return trip. At this same point I reached the Mid-Michigan Snow Equipment company. They have an interesting pond next to their building with a big wooden bear at the edge and some ducks swimming about on the water. |
| Across from Mid-Michigan Snow Equipment on Eden Road was this small cattail pond. I could hear the frogs and see their splashes but I never spotted one. I could see one brightly colored lilly pad flower. I had to stretch my arm out to get a good angle for the photo, so the picture is less sharp than the others due to camera movement. |
| Two good sized buildings and the only identification I could find, except for address numbers, was this sign on one door, "Showtime Rental". I was also attracted to a pretty house with nice wall texture and an interesting barn detail. |
Interesting patterns in a planted farm field, eye-catching gas pipeline warning signs, and a close-up of young growing corn, a major crop around the Mason area. |
