My photo walk of 26 August 2009 |

26 August 2009 59 minute brisk walk. Today's walk had a purpose of picking up dinner for my wife and me plus our grandson Toby. Due to an injured knee he wasn't with his family practicing Tae Kwondo. So my plan was to pick up sandwiches at the superb downtown Mason deli The Vault. But first I needed to put in at least 45 minutes of brisk walking. I headed north towards Cedar Street. I wanted to drop by the Mason Martial Arts Center to see my daughter Meg, her husband Jeff and her daughter (my granddaughter) Hazel in action. But first I headed further north. When I came out on Cedar Street I passed by the A&W restaurant (famous for their root beer). I was surprised to see a small car show going on in their parking lot. Having covered familiar territory previously documented on this web site I hadn't taken a single photo, but here was something different. Actually, most of my walks, even through familiar territory, reveal something new. Every walk seems to have some surprises. So I paused to take some photos of this small car show. As I was packing up my camera and walking away an old gentlemen arrived wearing his colorful flag-inspired outfit riding an unusual bicycle. I hurriedly got my camera out in time to get one shot before he entered the restaurant. The different looking bicycle turned out to be designed for two riders! Then I headed south on Cedar Street to check out the Tae Kwondo action. I didn't find my granddaughter Hazel there but Meg and Jeff were doing their regular Wednesday night conditioning. This is a really tough exercise regimen that requires a lot of effort. After intruding on their class and snapping a few photos I was off to The Vault. Below are a few photos of the vault, including their interesting wine display in the vault formerly used by the Dart Bank, which occupied this building many years ago. The Vault Deli in downtown Mason has a good selection of fine meats and cheeses, as well as wine, beers, chocolate and other goodies. Their menu has a large selection of specialty sandwiches. The building use to be occupied by Dart Bank. The large vault is still there, but it has been transformed into a wine cellar (pictured at the right). |
