Independence Day July 4th, 2010 |
4 July 2010 The 4th of July in Mason Mason always celebrates Independence Day in style. We had a car show (the biggest I can recall seeing here), the annual parade and the annual large fireworks display at the Ingham County Fairgrounds, located about a mile from my home. Below are some of what I saw in each of these events. To reduce the time required to get this page up I left out the detailed camera settings for each photo. The car show occupied three blocks on the streets surrounding the courthouse this year. Traffic was blocked off and there was a live performance by the Sea Cruisers band. I even spotted two couples dancing to the music. Everyone appeared to be having a great time. |
The parade always starts with a Mason Police car leading the flag bearers. People were applauding as the flag bearers marched by. Probably like many small town parades, the Mason parade usually has a lot of tractors, fire engines, local politicians and local merchants. A friend counted 59 tractors. As a farming community there is high interest in farm equipment, so there are several local clubs for collectors of such equipment and lots of people to display their items in a parade. |
I walked about a block from home to get a view of the fireworks at the Ingham County Fairground. The lower sky was obscured by trees but I still got a pretty good view of the displays. Photographing fireworks is tricky bussiness but the following pictures give a flavor of the impressive display. |
