Mason Sun Dried Music Fest - 28 August 2010 |
Mason Sun Dried Music Fest Today the first Mason Sun Dried Music Fest was held. The city intends this to be an annual event. Several streets on the downtown square were blocked off with a big outdoor stage set up for the music groups. Today the following groups were scheduled to perform: Rock Canyo Band, Frog & The Beeftones, Smooth Daddy, Backwoods Band, Freddie Cunningham & The Root Doctor Band, Ritmo, and Showdown. The music started at noon with people sitting on folding chairs and blankets. There were a number of vendors in addition to the regular Saturday Farmers Market. As I headed north on Barnes Street I passed a garage sale sign, one of many normally to be found in Mason on summer weekends. The second shot show a glimpse of this particular garage sale. On the way home I checked out the bicycles on offer. Approaching the city square the road was blocked off for vendors, in particular the farmers market which is usually on Maple Street, but today Maple Street was given over to the vendors for the Music Fest. |
A frequent feature of the Farmers Market are these musicians. I enjoyed a rendition of "Blowing in the Wind". Next are photos of the booths set up on Maple Street, including a kiddie jumping game. May granddaughter Hazel tells me this is called a "bouncy house". |
More vendors, including a mobile BBQ providing food. I had a nice BBQ brisket sandwich. Next is a photo of the lawn of the famous Ingham County Courthouse, where people set up folding chairs and blankets for the concert. |
Here is a sound tent and the stage for the musicians. |
I think the Rock Canyon Band was performing (not sure). A few people accepting the invitation to dance to the music. |
There was a drink tent that opened shortly after the music began at noon. Lots of people were relaxing as they listened to the live music. |
The Downtown Development Authority door on Jefferson Street had a nice poster for the Music Fest. Looking south on Jefferson Street you can see the street sign for the popular Turtle Tom's ice cream place. |
Here's the barier to the drink tent. Looking east from Jefferson Street the impressive Ingham County Courthouse is in view. |
The canon is part of a monument on the courthouse lawn. |
The Sports Stop store (located about a block from here on Ash Street) had a nice selection of shirts and hats with the music fest logo. |
More views of the stage area with some dancers. You can see an elevated young man in the kiddle jump. |
One booth was manned by Ryan, the owner of the local SNAP fitness club where I have exercised for the last two years. A combination of exercise at SNAP and diet has led to losing 50 pounds and vastly improving my health, including a reduction in medications and a wider selection of foods in my diet. He also owns and operates the local Baja Grille restaurant located a block south of here on Jefferson Street, next to the popular Kean's Store Co. The last photo shows Mason Mayor Leon Clark, who appears to be taking a keen interest in this music fest. |
Mayor Clark conversing with Ryan, a local businessman and owner of SNAP fitness club and Baja Grille restaurant. A couple more photos of the farmers market area are shown, along with two delightful ladies who help run things. |
I'm very fond of the small heirloom tomatoes grown by Airy Acres. Here are two views. Finally, here is a photo of a bag of potato chips being distributed by the Joseph of Judge campaign. I've never seen a cool give-away like this one before. |
