20 April 2014 |
20 April 2014 After a brutal winter (colder and with more snow than I can remember during my 20 years in Michigan) it was nice to have some true Spring weather. As a diabetic I find exercize helps lower my blood glucose number, so after a nice meal (that elevated my BG number to 142) I decided it was time for my first post-Winter photo walk. I have also upgraded my micro four thirds camera to the Olympus PEN E-PL5 (still learning the fine points of this new camera) so I struck out of a 46-minute about this pleasant little town and took some fairly random photos. First I walked by our new city hall/police station building (first two photos). The nice sunny day provided some attractive reflections. The last shot shows our county courthouse in the background, a building visible from many spots in Mason. |
Next it was by the Mason fire department with one of their nice fire engines showing through the reflective glass door. Then on to more reflections on nearby houses. |
Interesting garden fence, pause for a "selfie", and then on to the Elm Street hill leading to Jefferson Street. A jogger was just reaching the top of this rather steep hill, a good test for both running and walking. It's a good challence when I'm riding the Terratrike. |
Views from the Hayhoe riverwalk trail running along Sycamore River. More views of the Hayhoe trail and the Sycamore River below. |
A railroad line goes through Mason, near the Hayhoe trail at this point. The last photo shows the previous location of a cement stairway leading to the parking lot for the Jefferson Street retirement home (you can just see the corner of the building, which had been a public school building in the past). The stairway was not in good repair two years ago and was apparently removed shortly after this photo. |
Our old house on East Oak Street, now the home of our kids and grandkids. One of many barn-like structures in Mason. The former Christian Science church, now the home of the Mason Historical Society. |
The final photo shows some results from the first time we have planted bulbs in our garder in our over 40 years of married life. We have waited (somewhat) patiently through the Winter to see if anything would come up. These yellow daffodiles where a most welcome sight! |
