4 July 2015 - Parade
Part of the Sesquicentennial Celebration,
150th year anniversary of founding of Mason
This year's 4th of July parade was rather special with the Mason Sesquicentennial celebration, but also it contained most of the normal elements of this great parade: tractors, fire department vehicles, police department horses, Mason High School band, and politicians with their supporters. This year the Civil War Reenactors representing the 7th Michigan Voluntary Infantry Co. also participated in the parade with a color guard in full civil war uniforms and a marvelous group of ladies dressed in garments of the era of the beginnings of Mason.
I hadn't intended to watch the traditional fireworks display (at the Ingham County Fairgrounds) which takes place every year after the parade and when it is sufficiently dark. However, when the sounds of the display got my attention I walked along Cherry Street to the Steele Street Elementary School and the Mason Assembly of God church parking lots. A number of people had gathered there to watch the fireworks and I had a good view. I hadn't planned to take photos, but to the right is a shot from an iPhone 6 Plus showing the church building and some of the fireworks display.
